customs head: exports of industrial sector up by 19 pc

tehran, july 1, irna -- head of customs administration masoud karbasian here on tuesday said that the export of industrial goods in the first quarter of the current iranian year compared to the past year's similar period increased by 19 percent to reach dlrs 783 million.
speaking at the mines and industries day conference, he added that mechanization of various sections of the nationwide customs houses accounted for the boost.
he said that obtaining a transparent statistical figure is owing to the mechanized performance of customs affairs.
reiterating the need for creating safe environment for industrial activities, he noted that once this is achieved, the potentials of the sector will further develop.
karbasian pointed out that protection of domestic production and providing facilities for import and export of goods are among the programs of the customs administration planned to back the industries sector.
backing domestic products will eliminate problems such as the difference in the values at the customs departments across the nation, lack of transparency and smuggling of goods, which inflict
great damage on the national industries.
"customs administration took on to partially mechanize customs departments and standardized legal trends. besides, industrialists are authorized to choose the import route and imported goods can be
released from customs by postponing the related duties," he added.
he noted, "given the implementation of the tax aggregation law in the current iranian year (started march 21), from now on customs duties will be refundable, while this will reduce export costs and will curb its increase."
the official said that in a few months industrialists will be allowed to release immediately the raw materials, imported for the production of industrial goods and deliver the related papers and banking documents to the customs within two months.
"earlier goods were imported readily, while obtaining the related banking and other documents was a lengthy procedure. this caused difficulty in releasing goods. thus the new trend will facilitate the release of raw materials imported for production," he said.
karbasian said that to expedite customs affairs, the customs administration has established virtual customs through electronic systems and electronic statements of declaration will also be provided from now on.
putting the value of goods transited through iran in the past iranian year at dlrs 146 million, he added that promotion of national transit capacity can play a decisive role in the development of industry sector.
